How does a rhinoplasty work?

There are two kinds of rhinoplasty procedures. The first is a closed rhinoplasty in which incisions are made inside the nostrils. In an open rhinoplasty, the incision is made across the tissue between the nostrils.

During the procedure, Dr. Kashan will gently lift the soft tissues covering the nose and sculpt the bone and cartilage to the desired shape. In the case of a deviated septum, he will adjust the septum and the inner structures of the nose to improve breathing. Finally, the tissues are re-draped and stitched closed. Overall, a rhinoplasty takes about one to two hours to complete.

What does rhinoplasty recovery look like?

Patients typically need about a week to recover after their rhinoplasty surgery. Expect to experience some bruising and swelling in your nose and eyes immediately after the procedure. Throughout your recovery, you may experience nasal pain and headache, as well as bleeding and drainage from your nose.

Is a rhinoplasty risky?

Rhinoplasties are considered extremely safe procedures and are rarely associated with high levels of risk. Some patients might experience complications including infection, nosebleed or a reaction to the anesthesia. Very few patients may experience recurring nosebleed or numbness in or around the nose.
